These tests are a significant part of our band curriculum, comprising 40% of the students' total grade and recorded in the required performance category in the gradebook.
Students will be evaluated on the following aspects:1) Sight-Reading: Students will select a difficulty level and demonstrate their ability to play a piece they have not previously seen.2) Major Scales: Performance of seven major scales, graded on note accuracy, rhythm, and tone.3) Chromatic Scale: Evaluation of range, fluency, and tone quality.4) Prepared Excerpts: Three excerpts from the pieces currently being studied in class, graded on accuracy, musicality, and tone.
How Students Can Prepare:1) Private Lessons: Students are encouraged to take private lessons to refine their skills and build confidence.2) Extra Help: Additional help sessions are available for those who need guidance. Please encourage your child to take advantage of this resource.3) Daily Practice: Consistent practice is essential. Students should aim to practice 30–60 minutes daily to ensure they are well-prepared.
The chair test is an opportunity for students to showcase their hard work and progress, and we are here to support their success every step of the way.
